Our Story
In 2016, we founded Montoya Wealth Management with the aim of providing excellence in service and investment peace of mind for each of our clients. Independent financial advisors can provide something that the big banks and firms cannot: dedicated service without the pressure to sell proprietary products, or to sell anything, period.
Before founding the firm, Brandon worked in financial services for nearly a decade but found he couldn’t give his clients the level of service they deserved and that he wanted to provide. After a lot of thought and consideration, he decided to open an independent financial advisor, settling on the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) model for its high standards and benefits to clients.
The fee-only RIA model is different than the commission-based broker-dealer model in some key areas.
Working as an independent financial advisor means:
We don't earn commissions. This eliminates a significant conflict of interest.
We don't sell insurance products such as annuities. It's our belief that annuities are an excellent way to enrich the people who sell them while ensuring your upside never exceeds a few percentage points. Instead, we look for ways to offer that protection while still pursuing growth.
We don't have a parent company, so we are never under any pressure to use inappropriate or proprietary investments. Instead, we find the best investments for custom portfolios that work for you and your goals.
We make sure your money is held away from the firm. We invest your money but we don't hold it. Instead, we have hired TD Ameritrade to serve as a custodian for your assets.
We have been fortunate to have wonderful clients to work with from day one. It's been a rewarding journey so far, and we look forward to many more years of serving our clients.

Brandon Montoya, APMA®
Co-FOUNDER
Brandon is the firm’s principal for investment portfolio construction and management. He is an Enrolled Agent and an Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor (APMA®) and brings a decade of experience in financial services as well as an ethic of attentive customer service. Our clients know they can call Brandon anytime. In his spare time, he is an avid runner and member of the Prescott Frontier Rotary. He and Erica have two kids, Ellis and Lily.
Erica Ryberg, CFP®
Co-FOUNDER
Erica is the firm’s financial planner. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional and has been working in financial services in and out of corporate America since 2008 and loves all things personal finance. Like Brandon, she is absolutely passionate about bringing service and excellence to everything she does. In her spare time, she runs, mountain bikes, gardens, and chases after their son, Ellis.
Amanda Hiler
Business Manager
Amanda’s hyper-organization and love of fun were fired in the crucible of 13 years as a high school English teacher. When she isn’t being an absolute rock star for Montoya Wealth, she stays involved with her church, especially serving moms, and spends lots of quality time with her husband, Nathen, her children, Lincoln and Emma, and her two extremely spirited Yorkies.

The bottom-line
We charge a yearly flat 1% on the assets we manage for you until they reach $1 million. Account values over $1 million cost progressively less to manage.
Please note that at this time, we are close to capacity and are referring clients with fewer than $1,000,000 in investable assets to other capable advisors. See a list of a few of them here.
A little more detail
Assets over $1 million are billed on a progressively lower fee schedule:
Up to $1,000,000 in invested assets: | 1% of your account value |
$1,000,000 - $2,000,000: | $10,000 + .75% of the amount over $1,000,000 |
$2,000,000 and above: | $17,500 + .4% of the amount over $2,000,000 |
Note: We have a max fee of $21,500.
Occasionally, for complex cases, we may need to create a financial plan before we begin investment management:
Financial planning engagements at the beginning of a client relationship will be billed as a project fee that we base on our hourly rate. You will know the amount ahead of time and it will typically be in the $2,500 to $3,000 range, though it may be as much as $7,500 depending on the complexity of your finances.

If you are part of a SIMPLE IRA or 401k plan we manage: One module of financial planning per year is included in your fee. View our financial planning modules here.
Otherwise, comprehensive financial planning and follow-up are included in your fee.
